Brachyrhizodis wichitaensis (Cow-Nosed Ray)

Brachyrhizodus was a somewhat common ray in the Late Cretaceous of South Carolina. Its teeth are quite large compared to the other ray species found in the state. Its usual tooth shape is long and straight with multiple root lobes, anywhere from 2-5. Some specimens can have a curve, and it always has its characteristic triangular ends.

This specimen is a somewhat unusual tooth shape for this species, as typically their teeth are straight and not curved. Besides that it exhibits the normal characteristics in terms of shape and size.
