Cretaceous

The Cretaceous - the last days of the reign of the reptiles. In South Carolina we have representation from most of the major groups including: dinosaurs, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, turtles and crocodiles. The deposits we have all date to the late Cretaceous, ~75-66 mya. The primary deposits we find fossils from are the Peedee and Donoho Creek Formations, which are marine and deltaic depositions respectively. Consequently terrestrial animals, such as dinosaurs, are rare finds.
